Such a good read! Shonda Rhimes was the head writer on Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, and Scandal. She knows how to write, so not only does this book have great themes, it’s well written and fun! If you want to put yourself out there and take chances, but need some encouragement, this is the book for you!
[language warning on this one]
I didn’t know how much I needed this book. It just popped up as a recommended book and I decided to give it a try. It was great. She is a fantastic writer. This book is raw, real, funny, encouraging, and uplifting. I can’t recommend this book enough.
We are trained by society to apologize for ourselves. Every woman I know apologizes way too much for things she has no need to apologize for. Stop it! This book is a great read to help switch your mindset. Don’t be afraid to take up space in your life and in this world.
Yeah, another Rachel Hollis one. For good reason. She’s a good writer and she knows what she’s talking about. This one came before Girl, Stop Apologizing, but I read them out of order. It is definitely worth the read. Rachel Hollis is an inspiring woman and has lots of good things to say. I like her podcast too.
Basically this is just a beautiful book. Anne Lamot is an amazing author. She has a way with words that is breathtaking. I am all about people being real, honest, and raw and she is the epitome of those things. If you want a good, well written book that is also inspiring, this is the one for you.
If you are done just living your life from day-to-day, read this one. You deserve to thrive. Not just survive. This was one of the very first books I read when I first jumped in, and it was a great book to start with.
Being a woman in a highly man-run world can be difficult. It’s hard to take up space and be taken seriously. And unless you Lean In, you won’t make it. You can’t wait for someone to let you have a seat at the table, you need to have the confidence to take a seat. Don’t sit around the edges while the men sit around the table. Pull up a chair and sit next to them. This book will help you with that!
It’s not called “life changing” for nothing. This book, and following through with it, really did change my life. Our small apartment, where we have a family of 5, is okay. Yes, we have outgrown our apartment, but we don’t feel overwhelmed by it anymore. It’s easier to clean. There’s less laundry to do because we try to keep more minimal clothes. Even big cleaning sprees don’t take nearly as long as they used to before we got rid of stuff. And the concept of tidying up and everything having a home has translated into other areas of my life. This book, and following through with it, has been life changing.
(And for the record, I read this and did it all BEFORE the Netflix show came out!)
This book… I couldn’t put it down. Obviously I had to because I’m a mom and entrepreneur. But even so, I finished this book in two days. What Malala went through is horrifying, yet she continues to raise her voice today to speak up for women’s rights. Talk about an inspiration. I would love to meet Malala some day. But this book definitely gives you a small window into her life, and you can catch some beautiful light from that small window.
Do you want to know about amazing, badass women from history that you’ve probably never even heard of before? Then this is the book for you. I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend reading this one. It’s an easy read because each woman that it talks about only takes up a couple pages. So it’s easy to pick up for a couple minutes if you can’t sit a read for along period of time. This book is full of amazing women—nurses, ninjas, crime-fighters, and pirates! Seriously, you definitely want to read this one!
I think every single person should read this book. It had legitimately changed my life. It has changed the way my husband and I have difficult discussions together. It has changed the way we talk with and interact with our children. It has changed the way we talk with other people. For real. Non-Violent Communication gives you the tools to have a kinder, more loving life.
