"Not Just a White Dress" with Jessie Whittaker Kayleen Jean Johnson

I’m going to be completely honest. There is so much to unpack and talk about in this episode and I just… don’t have it in me to do that tonight. I felt so many emotions as I was editing this episode because, well, there’s a lot in this episode.

If you are struggling with the LDS Church. If you have been hurt in anyway by the church or someone in it, I am so sorry. If you ever need anyone to talk with or vent to, I am more than happy to be a listening ear. I will leave you with two quotes from this episode.

“And I went to my bishop, and instead of pointing me in the right direction as far as resources or who to turn to for help, he just confirmed all of those negative things I’d already been telling myself. He was like, you should have known better, you should have seen the red flags, why are you dating seriously as a 16-year-old? You are the one that’s in the wrong in this situation. He even told me that he wasn’t going to call this guy’s bishop to report it because it would ruin his chances of going on a mission.”

Ew. So much ew. This is not okay. It will never be okay. And it needs to stop. But we’ll end with a beautiful one.

“There’s something so sacred about turning to your Heavenly Mother and saying, ‘Look, I’m going through this shit right now, and I just want your love and your comfort.’ When I have sought out my Heavenly Mother, she has always been there for me.”
